Teaching Kids with Dyslexia to Read

IS OUR PASSION

The Challenge

Today more than ever, learning disabilities and disorders have become increasingly prevalent among school-aged children. Because of our method of more personalized teaching and smaller class sizes at Lighthouse Christian School, we continually seek the newest, cutting-edge tools and solutions that will enable us to overcome these challenges.

Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a learning disorder that involves difficulty reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words. Also called a reading disability, dyslexia is a result of individual differences in areas of the brain that process language.

Dyslexia is not due to problems with intelligence, hearing or vision. Most children with dyslexia can succeed in school with tutoring or a specialized education program.

The Solution

Assistive Technology for Dyslexia

Studies show that students diagnosed with dyslexia and who use assistive technogies demonstrate significantly improved educational outcomes compared to those who do not. These technologies include text-to-speech tools, immersive readers, word prediction software, digital note-taking tools and AI-driven resources. While students without these tools often struggle with reading comprehension and ongoing academic challenges, assistive technologies have been shown to boost self-confidence, independence and comprehension.

Specifically, research indicates that 80% of those students diagnosed with dyslexia benefit from these assistive technologies, and a full 60% thrive! Laptops, digital platforms, e-books, and other tools strongly enhance interactive learning and comprehension.

The positive effect of assistive technology cannot be underestimated in bridging today’s academic achievement gap. Your financial help is key in helping us achieve our goal of equipping every student at Lighthouse Christian School with the necessary tools to thrive!

The consistency and accessibility offered by laptops ensure that students can always use these resources, helping them overcome common challenges associated with dyslexia.

By ensuring that our students have their own laptops, we can provide each one with the tools they need for success. This initiative will empower students to learn  and grow at their own pace, without having to share devices, ensuring uninterrupted access to valuable assistive technologies.

With your support, we can reach our goal of $300,000. Together, we can make a lasting impact on these students’ educational journeys!
